According to USGA Chief Championships Officer John Bodenhamer, "Winged Foot has provided the backdrop for some of the most dramatic moments in the history of our sport,

with many of golf's famous champions being crowned on the club's iconic West Course." There are few stages as large as Winged Foot

and we work hard to give them the best ones on which to compete for a national championship.

Six U.S. Opens have been held on the West Course, which A.W. Tillinghast designed; previous winners include Bob Jones (1929), Billy Casper (1959)

Hale Irwin (1974), Fuzzy Zoeller (1984), Geoff Ogilvy (2006), and Bryson DeChambeau (2020).

In response to the COVID-19 outbreak, the USGA shifted the 2020 championship to September.

The course is ranked No. 5 on Golfweek's Best ranking of the best private clubs in New York and No. 15 on the list of all classic cours
