Rory McIlroy was honoured by Association of Golf Writers (AGW) as the 2022 Golfer of the Year.

The AGW Golfer of the Year Award was first presented in 1951. The recipient is nominated and voted upon by the European-born or residing player or European team in the prior year.

Northern Irishman Rory McIlroy, who finished the previous year as the top age at Dubai Jumeirah Golf Estate PGA Tour, finished this past year as the world's top golfer, a title he previously earned in 2012, 2014, and 2015.

I am delighted to be recognized for the fourth time as a member of the Association as their AGW Golfer of the Year, stated Rory McIlroy.

I very much value a good relationship with the Association and the media as a whole, and it’s not lost on me how good their work is in spreading news of golf throughout the world.

The USGA is to be congratulated for their continued work in monitoring golf, and their yearly plan

to honour some of these achievements with the presentation of this prestigious award. Rory McIlroy is a worthy recipient of the prize for a second time,

winning this season all of the titles available to players around the world: one in each part of the DP World Tour and PGA Tour.

There were some impressive competitors, including Matthew Fitzpatrick after he implemented a brilliant win at the US Open

Rory McIlroy will be escorted to next August's Open Championship at Royal Liverpool, the venue where he won the Claret Jug in 2014, having achieved his third Major victory.
